How to Repair Asphalt Pavement Cracks
Cracks in pavement will enable water and dust to enter the cracks, which will damage the pavement base. If the cracks are untreated, they will expand and contract due to temperature, moisture and traffic, which will weaken the pavement, or even form the potholes. Crack sealing is the most common method to repair small cracks. Using sealant to fill and seal the cracks will effectively prevent the damage of water, moisture and other impurities.
The crack sealing works can be simplily divided into 3 steps:
1. Route the cracks.
The cracks need to be routed by crack routers to create uniform edges, which will make sealant material to adhere better with the asphalt pavement. This will improve the performance and service life of the sealant and pavement.
2. Clean the cracks.
After the cracks are routed, blow the dust and impurities out of the cracks. They will influence the performance of the sealant.
3. Sealing the cracks
The last step is to fill the cracks with sealant. Asphalt crack filling machine can heat the sealant to keep it in working temperature and pour it to the cracks.
